Deck Project

From 27 July 2009 to 12 June 2010, I reworked AEOLI's decks. It would not have been possible without the help of friends and family, so I'd like to thank Nate Wilson, Todd Bartlow, Brian Gattman, and my parents who all graciously volunteered. Nate, I would not have completed this without your diligent assistance.

All through-deck hardware was removed, with the exception of winches and hand rails. The hull-to-deck joint was reinforced and all hardware was replaced or reconditioned. Interlux Perfection in Mediterranean White was used for the smooth surfaces, and cream KiwiGrip was applied to renew the nonskid. Original cast bronze chocks and stanchion bases were rechromed, portlight surrounds and hatch frames were powder coated and completely rebuilt. The anchor windlass and chain pipe were moved forward in order to accommodate a wide berth in the fo'c'sle. A new double-bridle, end-boom Harken mainsheet system was installed providing 4:1 purchase and swivel cams for easy sheeting. She sailed bare throughout the summer, but stanchions, pulpits and lifelines were eventually installed in preparation for the September 2010 cruise to Princess Louisa Inlet.
