Day 86: Departing Cabo San Lucas (w/ pics and vids!)

After spending two and a half weeks in Cabo San Lucas, we are finally ready to depart. We will be spending about a week around the cape (Bahia Los Frailes and possibly Ensenada de Los Muertos) before crossing the Sea of Cortez to Topolobampo (on the mainland). We expect to arrive there around 8 December.

We had a fantastic wedding on 23 November, and spent some very enjoyable time with immediate family and close friends. We were grateful for the opportunity to invite them aboard the good ship AEOLI and even managed a short day sail with the crew that lingered after the wedding. With all the wedding festivities having been completed by Rachel's birthday, we were able to relax and celebrate in post-marital bliss.

The marina here in Cabo San Lucas is newer with nice facilities, costing us $50/night. We also spent some time anchored out (for free), and now understand what everyone means when they say it is a terrible anchorage. There are jet skis and pangas roaming around all the time, so it is constantly rolly, but we had no problems holding and felt comfortable leaving the boat anchored on her own for several days.

Since we've spent quite a bit of time here, we have some excellent restaurant recommendations that are off the beaten path:

- Hacienda Cocina Y Cantina: This restaurant is inside the private Hacienda residential complex, and has by far the best view. "Do yourselves a favor and try the ceviche verde."
- Pepe's: This taqueria has the best al pastor (BBQ pork) tacos that we've found in the area.
- El Paisa Taqueria: Try the Papas Mixtos (potatoes with cheese and optionally meat). This was also the first place we learned of the aqua de jamaica (something like a hibuscus iced tea).
- The Office: Great breakfast served right on the beach.
- Salvatores: Very good Italian food, for when you might not feel like a taco. Try the house special lasagna!

If you are looking for a hair stylist, visit our new friend, Alan Torres, who runs the salon at the Saltwater Spa, Casa Dorada Los Cabos. He did a phenomenal job with our wedding hair (and the traumatic post-wedding haircuts; short hair is better for boat living, so we both did drastic cuts in solidarity!).
